After Desré Buirski had designed Nelson Mandela a variety of shirts, he ask her if she could design a silk shirt for him. She gave Mandela the first silk shirt on the 18th of July 1995. Each piece of fabric is a hand-batik piece of art which makes every shirt unique and one-of -a-kind. The shirt is made by a professional tailor, matching and aligning each piece of fabric perfectly. Over 150 silk shirts were designed and given by Desré to Nelson Mandela during the following years, turning the Madiba Shirt into a fashion icon.
