New Presidential Store in V&A Waterfront, Cape Town
Presidential is launching a much-anticipated store launch in the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town on Heritage Day, the 24th September 2018, coming full circle to the city where Presidential was first established.
The Presidential Shirt brand was born when Desre Buirski, then owner of a small clothing store in the Clocktower at the V&A Waterfront, decided to gift Nelson Mandela a batik shirt on the eve of the dress rehearsal of the inauguration of parliament in 1994. She continued to give Nelson Mandela over 150 silk batik shirts until after his Presidency, and as the shirts grew more popular throughout Africa, the Cape Town store closed and two stores were opened in Johannesburg.
The return to the mother city is exciting for the brand, and signals the demand for these impactful shirts both with Capetonians and with visitors from around the world. It is also appropriate given most of the shirts are now made in Garden's, Cape Town's historic CMT district.
Heritage weekend is also the first anniversary of the opening of the Zeitz Mocca Museum.
